Mt. Wilson by kennedmh Mt. Wilson by kennedmh
Mt. Wilson looms over the Wilson Mesa one October morning. If you look closely, you can see cows grazing in the meadows

Well, it is a 14er and the 16th tallest mountain in Colorado.

Here's a question..
How long would it take to hike from the lower part of this picture to the base of the mountain in the background?
Looking for some perspective.

Great shot, by the by!

Sorry, missed your question until now.

I don't know, I've never hiked it. In between the vantage point I was shooting from and the Wilson Mesa there's a 2000 foot drop to the San Miguel river before it climbs back up to to the mesa and the the mountain beyond. Looking at Google Earth, as the crow flies, from the foreground meadow to the start of the talus slopes on Mt. Wilson is about five and a half miles and a elevation gain of 2000 feet. From the foreground to the start of the aspen forest it's about three relatively level miles.

Great job at making that mountain look like it's towering over the valley.
